Screen Shot 2013-06-30 at 3.17.53 PMOn June 15, 2013, the ellephysio team happily made our second appearance as therapeutic sponsors at the Tour de Halton – a bike race aimed at raising funds for the new Oakville Hospital.  We volunteered our services to the cyclists post-race with complimentary 10 minute stretching/massage treatments.   The cyclists we were treating completed between 25 and 100 km, through the North Halton backroads, and all of their pledges go towards supplying the hospital with its internal equipment.   It was an absolutely spectacular day and we were busy from the moment the first bikers made it back.

This year’s Tour de Halton raised close to $150,000 for the Oakville Hospital Foundation. While in the midst of our massages, there were some thank you’s and hospital updates from the fundraising committee.  I was touched by the obvious sense of a hard-working and passionate community coming together to support a great cause.  How wonderful to turn sweat and burning quads into funds which will help make the hospital an effective place for hurting or sick people to receive the care and help they need.   We are honoured to be a small part of making this a great day for the cyclists.

We tried out something new and fun as part of this year’s outreach.  For this initiative, we had t-shirts made up that would help the cyclists see that we at ellephysio are a fun and united team.  We had a calendar with available ellephysio appointments written on the back of the shirts so that those cyclists with physical issues broader that post-race soreness could sign up for an appointment right then and there.  It was hilariously innovative and we had some takers who have already followed through and seen ellephysio’s quality approach for themselves!

A big thank you to the ellephysio staff; Susan, Sandra, Jennifer and Natasha, for helping to make our 2nd Tour de Halton outreach event a great success!
