Positive Changes and Life’s Little Adventures

Positive Changes

So 2014 is turning out to be a big year of shift and change for me. But in an amazing and positive way both personally and professionally.

Say my name, say my name

You might have noticed a difference in my moniker. I’ve gone back to my roots and adopted my family surname of San Andres again.  It feels right, it feels good.  Same me, just a different bow… I’d like to think of this bow like the giant ones that they wrap new cars in on TV. TA DA! *waving my jazz hands*

Taking on a personal challenge

With all the hype and success of our accidental race season last year – with 2013 being the FIRST time I had ever done ANY kind of race – we’ve got a jam packed schedule of activity this year. I would be super pumped and excited if you joined me on one or all of the events!

To make the decision even easier for you, ellephysio is running multiple group training sessions with our resident obstacle course expert and personal trainier, Ryan Couri. Our first set of sessions starts the first week of March! Three and a half months to get our butts in gear and conquer the Spartan Sprint (5km) or Super (13km). We’ll take care of everything for you, including team gear and registration, you just have to bring your spunk and your best game face to training and on race day we’ll cross the finish line together! #noexcuses

We’ve also got training for Tough Mudder up our sleeves, so stay tuned for obstacle course madness! It’s so much fun!

Lifelong Learning turns into a new service offering

Pelvic Floor Course - Jan 2014

Justine and I on our course last month

Just a few short weeks ago, Justine and I attended our first course on internal pelvic floor assessment and treatment for incontinence. We commuted back and forth to Vaughan to learn from some of the leaders in the field. It was a great weekend of learning, connecting with other amazing physios and “exploring” the pelvic floor. I’m also registered to take the Pelvic Pain course at the end of February.

We’re happy to announce that we now offer Internal Pelvic Floor physiotherapy at ellephysio. Such an under-serviced area of physiotherapy and an awesome and necessary addition to a clinic aimed at helping women and girls.  If you have any questions about what this type of assessment and treatment entails, feel free to contact us karen@ellephysio.com or justine@ellephysio.com or check out the website of Pelvic Health Solutions for great info and resources. We’re here to help and empower!

Follow me to the Land of Oz!

That’s right!  I’m headed down under in March for a little over 3 weeks. If you didn’t know, I lived in Brisbane, Australia for 2 years while I attended physio school at the University of Queensland, home of some of the world leaders in musculoskeletal research and development. Those 2 years were some of the best times of my life and I haven’t been back there in over 9 years.  I’ve got a dear friend getting married, the perfect excuse for a getaway!

While I am there I am planning on some meetings with likeminded physios that I have engaged with online via Twitter and Facebook.  I’m so excited to catch up with old friends from school and meet these new friends IRL (in real life). Can you believe that there are a group of us pelvic floor enthusiasts that proudly tout the hashtag #pelvicmafia?! Lol, I’m so excited to meet other members of the #pelvicmafia in Australia. Stay tuned for a group shot of us all wearing our t-shirts!

I’m also planning on living the Lolë life as an ambassador out there, so watch out for the hashtag #LoletakesOz as I model my Lolë gear in action! Living out loud everyday.

Follow me on my adventure while I tweet, update my Facebook status, Instagram and blog from abroad.  I promise to try and bring the sunshine back with me too!

Have any questions or suggestions for new things at ellephysio?  I LOVE feedback! Please comment and let’s open up a conversation. I’m totally approachable. 🙂
