Oakville Hospital Foundation’s 2nd Annual, Tour de Halton

Today, the ellephysio team had the pleasure of volunteering our services at the Oakville Hospital Foundation’s 2nd Annual, Tour de Halton. The Tour de Halton is a bike race aimed at raising much needed funds for the brand new Oakville Hospital, that broke ground earlier this year, at Dundas St and Third Line. Cyclists gathered pledges and rode either 100km, 50km or 25km, through the north Halton back roads. I was told by one of the committee members, Bonnie Flemington, that the government only pays for the actual hospital building. EVERYTHING else that the hospital needs, is to be paid for by the local constituents and via fundraising efforts like this one.

It was a cold and rainy morning while we waited for the cyclists to come back from their rides, but the sun peeked out just in time for us to roll up our sleeves and do our part! It was a pleasure to meet the riders and give them some much needed TLC through a few stretches and mini-massages. There were a lot of “ooohs”, “ahhhs”, and “oh that’s the spot!”, heard around our three tables that we had set up at the finish line.

This year’s Tour de Halton raised $80,000!! This is enough money to completely outfit 3 rooms at the new hospital. As you can imagine, we’ve still got a long way to go!

As part of our community outreach, we ran a draw at our tent for the lovely people that stopped by to say hello, and those that took advantage of our stretching and massage. We are pleased to announce the winners of our draw for gift certificates good towards any service at ellephysio!

Cam Walker won a $100 gift certificate!

Susie Shorey & Neil Ram each won a $50 gift certificate!

Congratulations to our winners, we will be in touch to give you your prize and look forward to seeing you at the clinic soon!

A big thank you to the ellephysio staff; Susan, Sandra, Leslie, Jennifer and Natasha, for helping to make our first community outreach event a great success!
